Client Expectations at Chapter One Tattoo in San Diego

When looking to book a tattoo appointment, it’s common to feel overwhelmed and unsure about where to start or what to expect. Especially if you’ve never had a tattoo before, the process can be filled with unknowns. In this guide, we will provide you with all the information you need to know leading up to your appointment at Chapter One Tattoo in San Diego.

Booking Process

The first step is reaching out with your tattoo idea. You can choose to fill out the request form on our website, give us a call, or visit our studio in person. We are flexible and accommodate your preferred method of communication. Depending on the complexity of your tattoo, we may be able to book your appointment right away, or we may suggest starting with a complimentary consultation.

Free Consultations

Our consultations are completely free of charge. During your consultation, you will have the opportunity to sit down one-on-one with the artist and discuss your tattoo idea. If you have any reference photos, this is the time to share them. If you don’t have any pictures, be prepared to describe your vision in detail. The average consultation lasts approximately 10-15 minutes, although some may be shorter or slightly longer.

Estimated Tattoo Time and Booking

After discussing your tattoo idea with the artist, they will provide an estimate of how much time will be needed to complete the tattoo. You will then proceed to the front desk to inform them of the artist’s time estimate. Our staff will find the earliest available slot in the artist’s schedule that works for you. To secure the actual tattoo appointment, a non-refundable and non-transferable deposit will be required. The deposit amount may vary depending on the artist and design. Sometimes the deposit applies towards the tattoo cost, while for larger-scale work, it serves as a drawing fee to cover the artist’s design time before the appointment. We will clarify the specifics when booking.

Design Preview

Typically, you will not see the tattoo design until you arrive for your appointment. This is standard practice in the tattoo industry. However, there’s no need to worry! Our consultations ensure that you and the artist are on the same page before confirming the appointment. When you arrive, the artist will show you the design for the first time. In most cases, the design will match or exceed your expectations. If any changes are necessary, the artist will work closely with you to ensure the tattoo is perfect. Our goal is to create a design that aligns with your vision and to make you feel comfortable throughout the entire process.

Stencil Placement and Preparation

Once the design is finalized and meets your approval, the artist will stencil it and place it on your body. The stencil can be adjusted and moved until it is positioned exactly where you want it. In some cases, additional design elements may need to be drawn directly on your skin using a skin pen or sharpie. The artist will make sure the stencil is complete or make any necessary additions. Afterward, the artist will prepare their equipment and pour the ink. This sets the stage for the tattooing process.

The Tattoo Experience

The duration of your tattoo appointment can range from as short as 5 minutes to as long as 8 hours, depending on the complexity and size of the tattoo. It is advisable to come well-rested and with a meal in your stomach, especially for longer sessions. You are also welcome to bring a snack to a lengthier appointment. After completing the tattoo, we will provide detailed aftercare instructions to help you take care of your new piece of art as it settles into your skin.
